Shortly after an apparent digital photograph of her California driver's license was released on the internet (after her card case was misplaced or stolen from a New York City nightclub in 2004), Lohan was asked her middle name by an audience member on the cable television show TEENick. She answered that it was originally (and, apparently, still is legally) Dee, but she later changed it to Morgan.

Lohan's father, Michael Lohan, has had multiple problems with the law. In May of 2005, he was ordered to serve 1½ to 4 years in prison after pleading guilty to several charges, including aggravated unlicensed driving and attempted assault http://abcnews.go.com/Entertainment/wireStory?id=798625&CMP=OTC-RSSFeeds0312. Michael Lohan begged for long-term alcohol rehabilitation, but was denied. He admitted to a drinking problem, saying he was being kept away from his children, but failed to address the reasons for the estrangement. On August 26, 2005, as part of a divorce petition filed by Dina Lohan, a Nassau County judge denied her husband a cut of Lindsay's earnings, saying they do not qualify as a "marital asset" (Michael Lohan argued it was Dina's "pay" as her daughter's manager). Further, New York State Supreme Court Justice Robert A. Ross wrote that Lindsay's career has created a windfall for the Lohan family, "filling the void created by (Michael's) lack of support (in a) resounding answer to the dysfunction that her father has brought to the household." http://www.newsday.com/entertainment/ny-liloha0827,0,1255543.story?coll=ny-entertainment-headlines

On May 31, 2005, Lohan suffered minor injuries in a car accident involving a paparazzo who was following her for a photograph. Police arrested the man after they determined that he hit her car intentionally; he was charged with assault with a deadly weapon. Lohan was involved in another accident on October 4, 2005; in this incident, the actress' black Mercedes-Benz convertible collided with a van in West Hollywood. Despite eyewitness claims that the accident was once again caused by the paparazzi, the police later refuted this, saying that the van driver caused the accident by performing an illegal U-turn. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/film/4310882.stm
