Lillian Board


 

Lillian Board (born December 13 1948 in Durban, South Africa; died December 26 1970). She won the silver medal for 400 metres at the 1968 Summer Olympics in Mexico City, narrowly losing to Colette Besson. She won two gold medals in the 1969 European Championships; an individual in the 800 metres and the 4 x 400 metres where she ran the last leg and beat Besson in a photo finish.

She went to Munich in Autumn 1970 to be treated by controversial doctor Josef Issels after stomach pain led to the diagnosis of cancer, but to no avail.
