Liberty (goddess)
Goddesses of and with the name of (the equivalent of) Liberty have existed in many cultures. A temple was erected to the goddess Libertas on the Aventine Hill in Rome by the father of Tiberius Gracchus during the second Punic War. A statue of the goddess Libertas was also put up by Clodius on the site of Cicero's house after it had been pulled down. It may be supposed that both of these actions were no less political than religious.
