Libertad Lamarque
Libertad Lamarque was a popular Spanish language actress. She was born in Argentina but became famous because of her work in the Mexican cinema. Legend holds that Lamarque moved to Mexico because she had been blacklisted by Argentine first lady Eva Peron. Marysa Navarro and Nicholas Frasier, authors of Evita: The Real Life of Eva Peron, however, say that this is not likely. Rather, say the authors, Lamarque moved to Mexico because the Mexican cinema was in better condition during the 1940s and 50s than was the Argentine cinema. The authors also point out that Lamarque traveled unfettered from Argentina to Mexico during her life and the lifetime of Eva Peron, therefore any blacklisting was unlikely.
