Lejre
Lejre is a municipality (Danish, kommune) in Roskilde County on the island of Zealand (Sjælland) in east Denmark. The municipality covers an area of 88 km², and has a total population of 8,724 (2005). Its mayor is Jens Hald Madsen, a member of the Venstre (Liberal Party) political party.
Attractions
The municipality is home to the Lejre Experimental Centre, a center for experimental archaeology and education, which includes reconstructions and recreations from different periods of Denmark?s history? from pre-history to the time of the Vikings. The centerpiece of the facility is an Iron Age village reconstruction, complete with sacrificial bog. The center is open to the public.
