Legacy preferences
Legacy preferences or 'legacy admission' is a type of preference given to certain applicants for that educational institutions based on their ancestral lineage or familial relationship to alumni of that institution. Many elite universities and colleges in the United States offer them and there is a large history of this practice occurring in the United States. The Ivy League institutions are estimated to admit 10% to 15% of each entering class based upon this factor.
