In politics, left-wing or leftism are terms that refer to the segment of the political spectrum typically associated with any of several strains of socialism, social democracy, or liberalism (especially but not exclusively in the American sense of the word), or with opposition to right-wing politics. Communism, as well as the Marxist philosophy that many base it on, and most currents of anarchism are considered to be radical forms of left-wing politics.
