Leave

Leave can refer to paid or unpaid time off work, and is often covered by legislation, such as the United State's federal Family and Medical Leave Act of 1993.

• Parental leave is the right to take time off work, paid or unpaid, to care for your child or make arrangements for your child's welfare. Often, the term parental leave includes maternity, paternity and adoption leave.
• French leave refers to the leisurely desertion from a military unit.

In the United States armed forces, leave is permission to be away from one's unit for a specific period of time.

All personnel are granted 30 days of leave per year. This time is usually used for vacations and other extended time periods away from the service that are longer than three days or need to be taken in the middle of the week.
