Le Mans Endurance Series
The Le Mans Endurance Series or LMES is a European sports car racing series created as a support series to the famed 24 hours of Le Mans race. It is modeled after the American Le Mans Series a similar racing series in the United States and Canada. 2004 was the inaugural season and consisted of four 1000 Km races. The races were at Monza, Nurburgring, Silverstone and Spa-Franchorchamps. The series uses the same rules and regulations as the Automobile Club de L'Ouest (ACO), which is the sanctioning body for the 24 hours of Le Mans race. The series includes four classes of competition: GT; GTS; P2; and P1. The GT and GTS classes are production car based, while the P2 and P1 classes are open prototype cars. At the end of the four races a winner is declared based on point accumulation throughout the season. In 2005 a fifth race will be added to the agenda, the 1000 Km of Istanbul in Turkey.
