Lauda Air
Lauda Air is an airline based in Austria. Together with Austrian and Austrian Arrows, Lauda Air belongs to the Austrian Airlines Group.
History
It was founded in 1978 by former Formula One driver Niki Lauda. In 1989 Lauda started their first long-haul flights from Vienna to Sydney and Melbourne, each via Bangkok. In the 90s they started to fly their 4 (SYD), respective 3 (MEL) weekly flights via Kuala Lumpur. Daily flights to Miami via Munich, to Dubai and to Cuba were following.

On May 26, 1991, Lauda Air Flight 004, operated by a Boeing 767-300 plane, was lost over Thailand, with 223 dead. That night, upon hearing of the accident, Niki Lauda flew to the crash site to contribute to the investigation.

In 2003, Austrian Airlines bought out the remainder of Lauda's stake. The airline now operates charter flights within the Austrian Airlines Group.
