(Latin Laponia), was a historical province or landskap in the north of Sweden. In 1809 it was split into a Swedish western part and a Finnish eastern part. It borders to J?mtland, ?ngermanland and V?sterbotten in Sweden and to ?sterbotten in Finland. It also borders to Norway and Russia.

The historical province of Lappland is divided between the Swedish Norrbotten County, in the north, V?sterbotten County, in the south and the northern part of the Finnish administrative Lapland Province in the east. Citizens of Sami decent are eligible to stand and vote in elections for the Swedish Sami Parliament.
