Lanny Wadkins


 

Lanny Wadkins (born December 5, 1949 in Richmond, Virginia) is an American golfer.

Wadkins attended Wake Forest University. He won the U.S. Amateur Championship in 1970 and turned professional in 1971.

Wins soon followed, with one PGA Tour win

in 1972 and two in 1973. In one major championship victory, a PGA Championship followed in 1977, and he continued to pick up a win more seasons than not until 1992, when he achieved his twenty-first and final PGA Tour victory at the Canon Greater Hartford Open. He played for the United States in the Ryder Cup eight times (1977, 1979, 1983, 1985, 1987, 1989, 1991 and 1993), which as of 2004 was the tied highest number of appearances in the competition by an American, alongside Raymond Floyd.

From 2000 Wadkins played on the Champions Tour, picking up a win at the ACE Group Classic that year. However, he divided his time between competition and broadcasting work with CBS Sports and did not become a regular winner at senior level.
