Landeshauptmann

Landeshauptmann (literally "country captain" or "state captain") is the German language title of the governor of a state of Austria or of the Italian province of Südtirol.

The female version of the title would be Landeshauptfrau. However, since the Constitution of Austria uses only the male term, the correct style of addressing such a person is not completely clear. The only two women who have held this position so far are divided on the issue. While Waltraud Klasnic of Styria prefers to be addressed as Frau Landeshauptmann, Gabi Burgstaller of Salzburg favors being referred to as Frau Landeshauptfrau.
