The series ran for 26 episodes over two seasons. It featured the Porter family - Tom, Kevin and Annie - trapped in a parallel universe after their sport utility vehicle fell through a time portal while exploring the backcountry. They also meet another human, a beautiful "cave girl" named Crista who also came from 20th-century America but who became trapped in that world when she was very young and grew up alone. Intelligent natives of the Land of the Lost include chimpanzee-like Pakuni and the lizard-like Sleestak, and there are many species of dinosaurs filling the jungle.
