Lakewood, Colorado
Lakewood is a city located in Jefferson County, Colorado. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 144,126. The city is one of the larger suburbs of Denver. It was founded in 1889 by Charles Welch and W.A.H. Loveland, who platted a 13-block area along Colfax Avenue west of downtown Denver. Loveland, the former president of the Colorado Central Railroad, retired to the new community of Lakewood after many years of living in nearby Golden.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 110.0 km² (42.5 mi²). 107.7 km² (41.6 mi²) of it is land and 2.3 km² (0.9 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 2.05% water.
