Lake Placid is a village of 2,638 in Essex County, New York, near the center the Town of North Elba and named after an adjacent lake.

Lake Placid was the first village/town/city in North America to host two Olympics. Los Angeles became the other when it hosted the Summer Olympic Games for the second time in 1984.

The village has been host to other events besides the Olympic Games, and is also the location of sports training facilties, especially those for winter events.
