Lads' culture

A combination of music, women, technology, drinking, smoking and rock 'n' roll define UK lads' culture. Or under a better guise: Sex, Drugs and Rock N Roll.

Lads' culture exploded during the early 1990s when the government legislated to allow multiple alcohol serving establishments to operate in city centres. Previously it was deemed only specific numbers of licensed premises could operate in a defined area, removing the chance of alcohol fuelled violence.

Therefore, by the mid-nineties with this increase in public houses and bars Lads drinking (and female) drinking culture rapidly grew. A typical Lads' night out would involve visiting several public houses and bars and consuming vast quantities of alcohol at reduced prices followed by stumbling to a nightclub and try to 'pull' a woman.

Many question whether the legislation was worthwhile. For many, city centres have now become no-go zones on Friday and Saturday nights due to the high number of intoxicated, and sometimes violent, young men and women who roam the streets. Several investigations have also suggested it has placed a heavy burden on the National Health Service.
