Laconia, New Hampshire


 

Laconia is a city located in Belknap County, New Hampshire. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 16,411. It is the county seat of Belknap County{{GR|6}}.

The original settlement was as the village of Meredith Bridge within the town of Meredith. It became the site of the Belknap County Court in 1840, and was established as the separate town of Laconia in 1855, then in 1893 became an incorporated city. Laconia, a resort center, is named for its location, fronting on several lakes. Laconia holds an annual dogsled derby.
