L. A. G. Strong

Leonard Alfred George Strong (1896-1958) was an English writer, known as a novelist, journalist, and poet. He was born in Plymouth of a half-Irish father and Irish mother; he was educated at Wadham College, Oxford, where he came under the influence of W. B. Yeats.

From the early 1920s, after a time in teaching, he was a professional writer, publishing more than 20 novels, also biographies and criticism. His Selected Poems appeared in 1931, and The Body's Imperfections: Collected Poems in 1957. He collaborated with Cecil Day-Lewis in compiling anthologies. He was a director of the publishers Methuen Ltd. from 1938.

Some of his poems have been set to music by Arthur Bliss. His novel, "The Brothers", was filmed in 1947 by David Macdonald.
