introduced him in the short story Celephais and he also appeared in "The Dream-Quest of Unknown Kadath". Kuranes was a man of the waking world and had an ordinary name which Lovecraft does not disclose. He was a great dreamer and created in his dreams the city of Celephais and the valley of Ooth-Nargai in which it was situated and presumably also the cloud city of Serannian which was connected with Celephais. After he died he became the king and chief god of Celephais. Kuranes has also appeared in pastiches of Lovecraft by authors such as Brian Lumley. Lumley's characters Hero and Eldin become in the end agents working for Kuranes.
