In the film Son of Godzilla, he was a massive jungle spider, possibly mutated by the same radioactive storm that gave birth to Kamacuras, that resided on Solgell Island. Encountering Minya, the giant arachnid encased the smaller beast in webbing. Killing Kamacuras with a posion stinger, Kumonga was about to do the same to Minya when Godzilla arrived to save his son. Kumonga came close to beating Godzilla, but was eventually roasted by both Godzilla and Minya's atomic rays. Kumonga would later appear as one of the denizens of Monster Island, and much later, would take part in the final battle against King Ghidorah at Mt. Fuji (in Destroy All Monsters).

In ', Kumonga is one of monsters sent by the Xiliens to ravage the world, attacking trailer parks in the Arizona Desert. When Godzilla is later revived to battle the Xiliens' monsters, he faces Kumonga in New Guinea. Kumonga covers Godzilla in webbing, but the mutant dinosaur manages to grab hold of one of the spider's strands of web, one still attatched to him. Spinning rapidly, Godzilla tosses Kumonga away, and the spider disappears into the horizon, his fate unknown.
