Kroon

The kroon (ISO 4217 code: EEK) is the official currency of Estonia.

One kroon is divided into 100 sent (singular).

Historically, the Estonian kroon was pegged to the Deutsche Mark; it is now attached to the euro and has been stable since 20 June1992 at a rate of 15.64664 krooni to the euro. Since 2004 is rate of 15.6466 krooni to the euro.

Coins in circulation: 5, 10, 20, and 50 senti, 1 kroon and 5 krooni.

The kroon is now pegged closely to the Euro in ERM II, the EU's exchange rate mechanism. Estonia was party to joining the mechanism since joining the EU - actual entry was on 28 June 2004 http://www.ecb.int/press/pr/date/2004/html/pr040627_2.en.html.
