Kook

  • A Kook may refer to a Crank (person) in the United States, or to a similar type of individual (the net.kook) found on Usenet on the newsgroup alt.usenet.kooks.
  • A Kook may refer to a slang word used by surfers to describe a beginner surfer, a wanna-be or a pretend surfer. The name comes from the cartoon character ?Wilbur Kookmeyer?, who was created by Bob Penuelas in 1986 as a two-page feature in Surfer Magazine. Here is the [official web site] of this cartoon. It is now also used to describe a beginner skateboarder.
  • Kook was the family name of Abraham Isaac Kook, Chief Rabbi in the British Mandate of Palestine, considered to be Israel's first chief rabbi.
  • Kook means "look" in Yiddish.
  • Kook sounds like the name Cook and the verb "to cook" in English, but with a longer vowel sound (it rhymes with 'fluke', not 'look').
