Knoxville, Tennessee
Knoxville is a city located in Knox County, Tennessee, United States. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 173,890. It is the county seat of Knox County{{GR|6}}, and is the third-largest city in the state of Tennessee. Its nickname is the Marble City, from when it was a major center of marble distribution in the early 1900s. It was named in honor of the first Secretary of War, Henry Knox.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 254.1 km² (98.1 mi²). 240.0 km² (92.7 mi²) of it is land and 14.1 km² (5.4 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 5.54% water.

In the southeast part of the city, the French Broad River (flowing from Asheville, North Carolina) joins the Holston River (flowing from Kingsport) to form the headwaters of the Tennessee River.
