Kim Medcalf

Kim Medcalf (b.8th December 1974 in Bromley, London, England) is the second actress to play the character Sam Mitchell in EastEnders, when she took over the role from Daniella Westbrook in 2002. Kim completed her A levels and after unsucessfully applying for various stage schools and opted for Bristol University to study Law.

Kim found herself selling soap powder for a big company as an account manager and on a holiday with friends decided it was no longer for her and she wanted to try again. She then enroled at the Central School Of Speech and Drama and completed an eight month course. After she completed the course Kim took part in productions including 'The Beggars Opera' at the National Theatre and 'One Touch Of Venus' at the Kings Head in Islington.

Kim landed the role of Sam Mitchell, and filmed her first scenes with Barbara Windsor in Spain!!! In 2002 Kim was involved in a horrific car accident in France, which left her with multiple brakes, the worst being her leg, which was pinned together using a metal rod.

In 2004 Kim showed her singing ability at the Eastenders Xmas party, where she sang 'All I want for christmas' and was invited to join the students of the 2005 Comic Relief Does Fame Academy. Kim performed various songs including 'Don't Know Why' 'Perfect' and 'Born to Try' as well as group songs with other students. After the judges initially being confused about Kim's voice she prevailed and ended up taking second place behind Radio One's Edith Bowman

On the 11th September 2005, Kim wowed the crowds and London's Hyde Park where she took part in BBC Family prom, she performed her own beautiful version of 'Over the rainbow' accompanied by the BBC Orchestra.

On the 22nd September, after playing Sam Mitchell for 4 years, Kim filmed her final scenes in the much loved soap, to be screened in November.
