Keokuk, Iowa
Keokuk is a city located in Lee County, Iowa. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 11,427. It is named after Sauk Chief Keokuk, who is buried in Rand Park. It is located in the extreme southeast corner of Iowa at the confluence of the Des Moines River with the Mississippi. The settlement of Nauvoo, Illinois is on the opposite side of the river and many tourists seek accommodations in Keokuk when lodging facilities in Nauvoo are full.
