Kelly Bishop


 
 

Kelly Bishop (born February 28, 1944 in Colorado Springs, Colorado) is an American actress best known for her portrayal of Emily Gilmore in the television series Gilmore Girls. She also had roles in One Life to Live and As the World Turns, as well as in the films Dirty Dancing and Wonder Boys.

In 1976, Bishop won the Broadway's Tony Award as Best Supporting or Featured Actress (Musical) for her performance as Sheila in the original production of the broadway musical "A Chorus Line".

Born Carole Bishop, she is a classically trained ballerina. She married Lee Leonard, a TV talk show host and former ESPN anchor, in 1981.
