Katherine Lanpher


 

Katherine Lanpher, born May 27, 1959, is a talk radio personality and formerly an award-winning journalist and newspaper columnist for the Saint Paul Pioneer-Press. Her career includes internships with the Muskegon Chronicle, the Detroit Free Press and the Chicago Sun-Times, where she danced her way through an investigation of dance studios. She has written free-lance articles and columns for publications including the New York Times.

She is currently the co-host of the Air America Radio program The Al Franken Show, but she will be departing the show on October 7 to write a memoir about her experiences moving to New York City. Prior to broadcasting, she was a columnist for the St. Paul Pioneer Press for 16 years before leaving to host Minnesota Public Radio's Midmorning program from August 1998 until January 20, 2004.

As a columnist she also hosted a talk show for a Saint Paul commercial radio station. She was known even then as a liberal voice, although she was not strictly political.

She was briefly married to Vincent Gracieux, an artistic director for the Theatre de la Jeune Lune in the Twin Cities, but divorced circa 1999, according to City Pages.
