Katharine Houghton, an American actress, was born Katharine Houghton Grant on March 10, 1945, in Hartford, Connecticut. She attended Sarah Lawrence College and majored in philosophy.

Katharine Houghton is best known for her role as Joanna "Joey" Drayton, the caucasian ingenue with an African-American fiance, played by Sidney Poitier, whom she brings home to meet her parents, portrayed by Katharine Hepburn and Spencer Tracy, in the 1967 film, Guess Who's Coming to Dinner.

Ms. Houghton was named after Katharine Hepburn, who was her maternal aunt. Hepburn was instrumental in helping Houghton launch her career. The acting torch has been passed along in the family to actress Schuyler Grant, Houghton's niece.

Ms. Houghton has had an extensive career in film and theatre. She is also a playwright and has translated the works of others for the stage. In 1975, she wrote a children's story, "The Wizard's Daughter", which is collected in the book Two Beastly Tales, illustrated by Joan Patchen.

In 2004 she portrayed Mrs. Spaulding, one of the Harvard University trustees, in the feature film Kinsey, starring Liam Neeson and Laura Linney.
