Karolinska University Hospital
The Karolinska University Hospital or Karolinska Universitetssjukhuset is a university hospital in Solna, Sweden. The original Karolinska Hospital (Karolinska Sjukhuset) was inagurated in 1940 and served as a national institution until 1982, when responsibility was transferred to Stockholm County Council. Since 1982 it has been operated as an emergency hospital for Stockholm County, and as a teaching hospital for the Karolinska Institute medical university. As of January 1, 2004, it merged with the former Huddinge University Hospital (Huddinge Universitetssjukhus) in Huddinge, south of Stockholm, to form a new hospital with one unit in Solna and the other in Huddinge.
