Karlovy Vary {{Audio|Cs-Karlovy Vary.ogg|listen}} or Carlsbad (German: Karlsbad), is a spa city situated in the western part of the Czech Republic on confluence of Oh?e and Teplá rivers. Karlovy Vary is named after Charles IV, who founded the city in 1370s. It is historically famous for its hot springs (13 main, about 300 smaller springs and warm-water river Teplá).

Karlovy Vary is a rich city and popular celebrities destination with lot of architectonical beauties.

In the 1990´s the city became infamous as a holiday and investment target of the Russian Mafia.

Currently, about 3/4 of the city's commercial real estate is owned by Russian businessmen.http://eb.eiu.com/index.asp?layout=oneclick&country_id=1690000169 And because the city is mainly a tourist spot for either native Russians or former inhabitants of the Soviet Union, the local economy is heavily dependent on Russian money in the tourist aspect as well. This overwhelming domination of Russians is a cause for great animosity from the native Czech residents.
