Karl Dorrell

Tenure as UCLA head coach

Karl Dorrell was hired to replace Bob Toledo, who was released at the end of the 2002 regular season. Between Toledo and Dorrell, Ed Kezirian, an atheltic department official who oversees the academics for the football team, served as interim coach for the 2002 Las Vegas Bowl. Kezirian is known for waving a towel on the sidelines. The Bruins won the bowl game over the New Mexico Lobos 27-13.
