Junta
- In Spanish, junta means "coming together". In modern English usage, junta (pronounced HUN-ta, as in Spanish) typically refers to a military dictatorship, particularly the Proceso de Reorganización Nacional, the infamous military dictatorship that ruled Argentina from 1976 to 1983. - In the history of Spain, junta was the name chosen by several local administrations forming in Spain during the Peninsula War as a patriotic alternative to the official administration topped by the French invaders.
- In Spanish America, the Creole juntas were formally loyal to Ferdinand VII of Spain, but in the power void, they became actually independent, preparing the independence of Spanish America. Today the Juntas are remembered in the autonomous governments of Spain
