Judd Winick

Judd Winick (born February 12, 1970 on Long Island, New York) is a American cartoonist famous for his appearances on MTV's , as well his work as a successful comic book writer and artist. In 2001, Winick married his Real World co-star Pam Ling. They had been living as a couple since the show in 1994, and had a baby in May of 2005.

Winick has courted both controversy and praise.

His book Pedro and Me, among many honors, has been given six American Library Association awards, nominated for an Eisner Award, and has been incorporated into school curricula across the country.

In his career as a comics book writer, he has gained media attention for the gay and HIV-positive characters in many of his comic books. Examples being Terry Berg, a young gay teenager in Green Lantern, and the HIV positive Green Arrow sidekick, Speedy.

Terry emerged as a gay character in 2001 in Green Lantern issue No. 137 and in Green Lantern issue No. 154, the story entitled "Hate Crime" gained media recognition when the character Terry was victimized in a homophobic attack. He received three GLAAD awards for his stories — two for Green Lantern and one for Pedro and Me.
