Josh Howard


 

Joshua Jay Howard (born April 28, 1980 in Winston-Salem, North Carolina) is a NBA basketball player for the Dallas Mavericks who stands at 6'7". Howard played college basketball at Wake Forest University.

He was the unanimous selection as the Atlantic Coast Conference player of the year in 2003 (first since David Thompson in 1975) and led Wake Forest to the regular season league championship. Howard was named the national player of the year by FOX, College Insider and Basketball Digest. He was a finalist for the John Wooden Award and the James Naismith Award in 2003.

Howard was drafted with the 29th selection in the first round of the 2003 NBA Draft by the Dallas Mavericks. Even though he was picked last in the first round, he has played excellently for the Mavericks in his first year; even playing as a starter at several occasions. Along with then co-rookie Marquis Daniels, Josh Howard became part of the 2003 NBA All Rookie Second team.

Josh brings to the Mavericks youth and athleticism. Aside from his consistent shot from mid-range and outside, he can penetrate and drive inside. In the Mavericks' first round victory over the Houston Rockets during the 2005 NBA Playoffs, Josh was considered an "X-factor" with his drive plays which usually drew fouls from Rockets center Yao Ming.
