Josephine Tewson

Josephine Tewson (born February 26 1939) is a British actress, best known for her role as Elizabeth Warden (née Hawksworth) in Keeping Up Appearances (1990–1995). She also played Edna Hawkins in the first six seasons of the British sitcom Shelley, and appeared in a memorable United States television commercial for Fig Newtons.

Tewson was born in Hampstead, London, and studied at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art. She is the cousin of actor John Inman. She was once married to the actor Leonard Rossiter, though they later divorced.
