Joseph Silverstein
Joseph Silverstein (born March 21, 1932) is an American violinist and conductor.

He was born in Detroit and studied with his father, who was a public school music teacher. From the time he was 12, he studied with Josef Gingold, Efrem Zimbalist, William Primrose, and Mischa Mischakoff.

In 1962, he became concertmaster of the Boston Symphony Orchestra, a position he held for 22 years. He was appointed assistant conductor in 1971. He was then music director of the Utah Symphony for 15 years. He is currently principal guest conductor of the Seattle Northwest Chamber Orchestra.

He has appeared as soloist with many major symphonies. His violin is a 1742 Guarneri del Gesł.
