Jonas Jonson Bronck alt Bronk or Brunk (1600 ? -1643) was a Swedish immigrant to North America who gave name to The Bronx borough of New York City.

Bronck was born in a peasant family in the small village Komstad in Sweden some time around the year 1600. He became a sailor and it is known that he traveled to Japan and India. For a while he lived in Amsterdam where he got married on July 6 1638. After that he and his wife decided to emigrate to America.

In 1639 he acquired a piece of land located straight across from the island of Manhattan. The farm came to be known as "Bronck's land", or simply "Bronks", and that is the origin for the name of The Bronx.
