The News-Letter is the oldest continuously published college newspaper in the nation, founded in 1896, and is published weekly. Named after Charles Carroll of Carrollton, signer of the Declaration of Independence who owned what is now the Homewood campus, Carrollton Record is the university's only independent newsmagazine. The Black & Blue Jay is among the nation's oldest humor magazines, founded in 1921, and is the inspiration for the University's mascot. Zeniada and j.mag are the university literary magazines. Prometheus is the undergraduate philosophy journal.
