John Spencer (actor)

John Spencer was born John Speshock on December 20, 1946. He is an American actor of Irish and Ukranian extraction who was born in New York City and who is best known for his role as Leo McGarry, the Chief of Staff on the television drama The West Wing (television). In the latest episodes he was nominated as the Democratic Vice-Presidential Nominee on the Santos/McGarry Ticket.

Mr. Spencer began his career on TV on The Patty Duke Show; he also acted in the Billy Crystal romantic comedy Forget Paris (1996) as a wisecracking co-worker to Billy Crystal's basketball referee, The Rock (movie) (1996) as the untrustworthy FBI official "Womack", and the 2002 theater production of The Exonerated.
