John Howard Porcerelli, PhD, ABPP was born on (June 25, 1957) in Detroit, Michigan. He lives in Michigan with his two sons and one daughter with his wife of 17 years.

He attended the University of Michigan. He is a clinical psychologist, an associate professor (Clinician-Educator) in the Department of Family Medicine, and Director of the Division of Behavioral Science. As director, he oversees the psychosocial training of WSU family practice residents and faculty development in psychosocial medicine. He personally provide lectures to WSU family medicine residents, medical students, and graduate students in various WSU departments. He has had 32 publications.
