John McLaughlin, Ph.D., (born 29 March 1927 -) is the creator, executive producer, and host of The McLaughlin Group, a long-running weekly public affairs television program in the United States, where a group of five commentators discuss current political issues.

He earned two master's degrees from Boston College, and a Ph.D. from Columbia University. He is a former Jesuit priest and was a speech writer and advisor to President Richard M. Nixon. In 1970, he ran for Congress from Rhode Island, but lost. Three years later, he married Ann Dore McLaughlin, who served as Secretary of Labor under Ronald Reagan from 1987 until 1989. The two divorced in 1992.

McLaughlin is fond of making witty predictions based on current events, and of asking questions in absurd ways. One phrase he often uses is: "On a scale of 0 to 10, with 0 representing impossibility and 10 representing complete metaphysical certitude, what is the chance of...?" His style has been parodied by many comedians and other commentators, most notably Dana Carvey of Saturday Night Live. McLaughlin himself appeared as The Grim Reaper in a SNL sketch that parodied his show.
