John H. Wood, Jr.
John H. Wood, Jr. (died May 29, 1979) served as U.S. District Judge before being killed by Texas assassin Charles Harrelson outside Wood's home in San Antonio, Texas on May 29, 1979.

Wood was notorious for his heavy sentencing of drug traffickers. The murder contract had been placed by Texas drug czar Jimmy Chagra, who was awaiting trial before the judge. This was the first assassination of a U.S. federal judge in the 20th century.
