John Farrar

Born in Melbourne Australia in 1946 on 8th November, guitarist/singer/songwriter/producer John Farrar (pronounced Fare-ah) wrote and produced most of pop singer Olivia Newton-John's number one pop singles. He began playing guitar when he was twelve. At sixteen, he began playing with local rock bands, such as the Strangers. In 1969, he joined the legendary English rock group, the Shadows. After Farrar joined the band, the Shadows became the house band for the Australian version of American Bandstand, The Go Show. Both Farrar's future wife (Pat Carroll) and Newton-John appeared on The Go Show as singers. After returning from a tour with Olivia as a two-girl band, Carroll dated and married Farrar. Farrar joined a new vocals-based band some members from the Shadows were forming and moved with his wife to England. He went on to primarily produce and write hits for Olivia Newton-John, but also wrote and produced various albums as a member of the Marvin Welch & Farrar Project. He also wrote the entire music score to a mid- 1990 production of "Wuthering Heights" the musical. Incidentally, Olivia played Cathy on the studio album, and contributed five songs. He is now semi-retired and lives in Malibu with his wife, Pat Farrar.
