Wyndham John Albery FRS, British chemist.

John Albery undertook his D.Phil. at Oxford University with Ronnie Bell, starting in 1960. He then became a Fellow in Chemistry at University College, Oxford in 1964, where he was briefly a colleague of E J Bowen. Coming from the theatrical Albery family, he was an enthusiastic senior member of the University College Players and organizer of the Univ Review for many years. In fact, early in his career in 1962 he wrote for ground-breaking satirical comedy television show That Was The Week That Was.

After Oxford, he became Professor of Physical Chemistry at Imperial College in London. Later in 1989 he returned to Oxford to be Master of University College. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society and was the first Master of Univ to be so. He resigned in 1997 and is now Barrer Fellow in Chemistry at Imperial College.
