Johann Joachim Winkelmann
Johann Joachim Winkelmann (1717-1768) was a German art historian and archeologist. He is famous for founding the "Greek revival", an art movement based on Greek art that influence the rise of the neoclassical movement during the late 18th century. Winckelmann was also one of the founders of modern scientific archaeology and first applied the categories of style on a large, systematic basis to the history of art.
