Perry climbed the rankings since turning professional in 1991, and reached the top sixteen in 2002. His best performance so far was when he reached the final of the European Open in 2001. He also reached the quarter-finals of the World Championship in 2004, beating defending champion Mark Williams along the way, and the semi-final of the UK Championship the next season, losing that match after leaving opponent David Gray (snooker player) requiring snookers to remain in it.
