Joe Greene (football player)


 

"Mean" Joe Greene (born September 24, 1946 in Temple, Texas) was an American football player in the NFL. He played for the Pittsburgh Steelers from 1969 to 1981 at the defensive tackle position. The Steelers chose with the first overall choice in the 1969 NFL draft. Greene was a cornerstone of the Steel Curtain defense that won four Super Bowls in the 1970's. Greene was twice named NFL Defensive Player of the Year, played in 10 Pro Bowls, and was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1987.
