Jody Watley
Jody Watley is a Grammy Award-winning pop singer who was born in Chicago, Illinois on January 30, 1959. Her father was a minister/disc jockey, and her goddaughter was the late soul singer Jackie Wilson. She has two children, Lauren and Arie, and was married to producer Andre Cymone.
FLOWER
After spending most of 1997 in the recording studio crafting her sixth studio album, Flower, Watley was back in early 1998 with its lead off singles "Off The Hook" and "If I'm Not In Love." In spite of both songs hitting #1 on the Billboard Dance Charts, and "Off The Hook" peaking at #23 on the Billboard R&B Singles Chart, both ultimately failed to make waves on the pop chart. Big Beat Records was absorbed into its parent label, Atlantic Records, which then shelved the album from a US release after its first two singles underperformed. Flower, however, was released in Canada, Europe and Asia -- only. The critically-acclaimed release was championed by many U.K. magazines, including Blues and Soul, and Echoes magazine among others. Watley's days as a American solo superstar, though, were now clearly past her.
