Joan Davis
Joan Davis (born Madonna Josephine Davis June 29, 1907 in St. Paul, Minnesota; died May 22, 1961 in Palm Springs, California) was a popular comedienne and actress on radio and TV. Getting her start in vaudeville with her husband, Si Wills, she was one of the few female clowns of her time. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Davis co-starred with Lou Costello in Hold That Ghost (1941), but she was best known for her sitcom I Married Joan, which co-starred Jim Backus as her hapless husband, and her real-life daughter, Beverly Wills, as her TV daughter. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ She died of a heart attack at the age of 53. Freakishly, her remaining family (mother, daughter, grandkids) all died in a house fire 2 years later in October 1963. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~
